WHY IT WORKS

A Message from the Author

Do you want to continue competing in your sport at one of the most prestigious academic colleges or universities in the country?

​

If so, you would be exactly like the 480 athletes I worked with as a personal recruiting adviser since 2004 when I started Ivy Recruiting, Inc. But would you believe that over 90% of my athletes ended up being supported and recruited at one or more of the top 100 academic colleges in the country? Probably not.

​

But what you may not know is that the coaches at these schools can designate which recruits will be supported and virtually all who they support are admitted. Admittedly, Admissions first decides whether to approve the athletes the coach supports but as you would see in the chart in my book, Ivy Recruiting Strategy for Athletes, up to 100% of those supported by Ivy League coaches are admitted. Since I only accepted athletes for my program who had the academic credentials to be admitted and the athletic ability to compete at the collegiate level, their only goal was to identify coaches who would support them with Admissions.

 

That’s where my Ivy Recruiting strategy came in.

The common objective of athletes I worked with was their determination to keep competing at a highly selective college or university. In fact, virtually all of them put academics first when it came to picking a college. Since I had been a volunteer responsible for interviewing applicants for Dartmouth Admissions for 22 years, I knew what to look for when reviewing an athlete’s transcript and test scores. I also spoke to the athletes’ coaches to confirm whether or not they had college level talent. That allowed me to work for athletes all of whom had what it took to be recruited. Nearly 100% of those supported are admitted by Ivy League Universities and other highly selective Division 1 or Division 3 schools. The difference between other prospects and Ivy Recruiting athletes was all my athletes followed my strategy.

As a result, when I spoke to coaches about athletes I was helping, coaches at elite academic schools realized that I thought like they thought. As an example, here’s what a Harvard Women’s Soccer Coach wrote to me:

“Tom....I'm glad to know we've got quality people like yourself out there helping educate parents and players about the college process.  Every person you help is one less potential headache for coaches....everything you do is greatly appreciated!” 

​

Why would a coach say “headache”? Because it is frustrating to highly selective school coaches to come across an athlete that interested them but who then fell behind other athletes who had contacted them. Were the other athletes better or smarter? Perhaps, but coaches at these prestigious schools with huge databases of prospects don’t have time to chase down athletes who do not provide them with information they need in a timely manner. They will naturally pay attention to those who showed the most interest and who followed a timeline that gave coaches what they needed when they needed it.

Keep in mind that NONE of the athletes I worked with as a personal recruiting adviser were being recruited which is why their families hired me. Not being recruited is more of a reason for you to buy this this book. My focus was to make sure every athlete I represented followed each step that highly selective college coaches needed to be able to determine whom to recruit.

​

Did it work? Almost every time. The pattern was established right from the beginning for my male and female athletes regardless of sport. For my first six graduating classes from 2005 through 2010, 97.4% (186 of 191) of my clients were recruited to play at the next level. They were getting into schools where only 5% to 25% of all applicants were admitted. How could that be?

​

The answers are in my book, Ivy Recruiting Strategy for Athletes. Every step those athletes took are the same steps that are available in detail for you to follow. Of course since I am retired from personally advising athletes, I will not be able to guide you or to talk to coaches on your behalf. That means you are on your own so there is no guarantee what you use from this book will work for you.  But if you follow the strategy and treat it as an additional AP class or part-time job, you will be able to find out your chances of being supported by coaches you are in contact with. Their feedback will give you what you need to direct you toward your goal. What you can be confident about is that your chances will be much greater than your competition who are unaware of the Ivy Recruiting strategy or how to navigate the recruiting process at elite academic schools.
